Japanese volcano print Mount Fuji

“The storm under the summit” by Katsushika  Hokusai

This reproduction of a print which represents Mount Fuji in a volcanic and stormy appearance is in reality a work by one of the greatest Japanese masters of ukiyo-e. This painting is called “The Storm Below the Summit” and belongs to a series of prints called “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” that Hokusai produced in the 1830s.

We find, as with all the paintings in this series, the famous Prussian blue in the sky which contrasts the clouds present on the horizon of the volcano. But what gives color and character to this painting is mainly the red of the volcano which gives it a dangerous and powerful appearance compared to the smallness of the setting.

The writings on the left are the title of the painting as well as Hokusai's signature.

ATTENTION : The frame is not provided with the canvas, so we leave 4 to 5 centimeters of margin on each edge in order to be able to add reinforcement.
